Thanks Pam!!

In my last post I mentioned a giveaway that I won. Today the Fed Ex guy delivered my package and I'm so excited to share it with you!

Pam from Our Adventures In Home Improvement made this! How awesome is that!

She also included these beautiful kitchen towels!

Now I need to find the perfect place for the box and decide what to put in it. Any suggestions?

Please go visit Pam at Our Adventures In Home Improvement. She has an awesome blog full of great ideas. There is also a tutorial if you want to make a wood box of your own.

Thank you so much Pam! I love everything!

Fresh From The Garden

We finally have some fresh ripe veggies from our garden!

Onions, cherry tomatoes and cucumbers. Yummy!

The other day I made a salad with all the veggies and grilled chicken on top. Ummm it was good!

I really wanted to use lettuce from the garden but it wasn't quite ready.

Now it is!!

I just love walking outside and pulling fresh veggies out of the ground. Everything tastes so much better when it's fresh.

Hannah's guinea pigs really liked the lettuce too!

I won a giveaway (from another blog) and can't wait to share it with you. As soon as it arrives I'll let you know. Hopefully tomorrow!   : )

Have a great day!!

Super Cool Storage

I was at Joann Fabric's the other day (in need of some retail therapy) and came across these metal magazine organizers. They were in the back to school aisle along with some other cool storage items.

I love the bright colors these come in - turquoise, lime green, and hot pink. The turquoise and lime green were perfect for Taylor's PB Teen knock-off bedroom.

I decided to hang them under her PB knock off bulletin board. She filled one with her school year books and the other with some stuff important papers.

Of course I didn't pay full price. Originally they were $12 each - ouch! Last week some of the back to school items were 50% off so I paid $12 for both!

Have an awesome day!!

Somewhat Simple

I've got nothing for ya. Zilch. Zero. I haven't been feeling very creative lately. Must be the hot weather. It's been in the upper 90's with a heat index of 105-110. Being outside is uncomfortable to say the least.

My to-do list is sitting on the kitchen counter and I look at it but don't feel motivated to do anything. Is anyone else feeling like this?

My daughter Hannah has been patiently waiting for me to re-do her bedroom. It is all pink and purple but she wants something more "grown up". We've been looking through the Pottery Barn Teen catalog for ideas and found this room.

Of course the price for just the quilt is more than I want to spend on the entire room! Hopefully I can find something similar and much cheaper!

Have a great weekend and stay cool in this heat wave!

Breadbox Mailbox

This is such a cute idea that I had to share it!

My parents live in a small town in western Colorado. They have the cutest little house that I just love! When their mailbox needed to be replaced they came up with this idea.

That is a breadbox turned mailbox. Such a unique idea!

This is how the breadbox is attached to the PVC post.

It's nice and spacious inside. No more squished magazines and packages. I wish our mailbox wasn't at the curb and I could do this.

I bet that none of their neighbors have a mailbox like this!

Their yellow lab Gunther is at the door keeping guard! He loves to get in the photos!

Have an awesome day!!

I Scream, You Scream . . .

We all scream for ice cream!

Did you know that July 17th is National Ice Cream Day?
I'm joining La at A Musing Potpourri for an Ice Cream Social!

I really don't need a special day to enjoy ice cream. I have some in my freezer at all times ~ even in the winter when it's 5 degrees out!

One of my favorite ways to eat ice cream is to make Ice Cream Floats. My mom always made these when I was little. Here is the extremely complicated recipe:

Vanilla Ice Cream
7-Up (or any soda you like)

Put a few scoops of ice cream in a tall
glass. Add soda and watch it fizz!

Magazine Storage ~ From Plain to Pretty

While at IKEA a few weeks ago, I spotted these magazine storage boxes.

I think the pack of 5 was only $1.00! They are very plain and boring - hence the cheapo price - but I knew how to spruce them up a bit.

I took some scrap book paper and traced the box then cut it out.

Then I attached the paper to the box using double-sided tape.

I was short on paper so I had a small gap to fill. The leftover polka dot ribbon worked great! I used double-sided tape again to attach it.

A few gems, a tag and I have a decorative box to hold my millions of decorating magazines.

I have 4 more boxes left so I think I'll decorate one for each of my girls.

Well, there you have it folks. Cheap. Quick. Easy. That's how I roll!

Have an awesome day!!

Sew Happy!

Hello everyone! I have some exciting news to share!

No I'm not pregnant.  No I didn't win the lottery (I wish!) but I do have one of these . . .

. . . and I know how to use it!

It was time to conquer my sewing inability and fear. I really don't know what I was afraid of. Once I figured out how to thread the machine it wasn't that bad.

This is something I've wanted to do for a loooong time. I see the amazing things you all make and post on your blogs. I was so jealous that I couldn't even sew a straight stitch!

Now, I am no seamstress and never will be. I just wanted to get the basics down. Here is the first project I sewed . . .

See those blue pillows? They are fabric napkins from Target and I've had them for about 4 months. They match the blue in my floral pillow perfectly!

What do you think? Just don't look too closely or you'll see how crooked my stitching is. I still have a lot of practicing to do!

Have an awesome day!

That looks a lot better!!

I just love using paint to update an item! Remember the faded green light on the back of my house? Here is a photo to remind you of what it looked like.

It looked really bad next to the freshly painted clock and thermometer.

Handyman Hubby removed it and gave it a few coats of spray paint. I also cleaned the glass inserts and that made a HUGE difference. Not sure when they were last cleaned. Let's just say it was a long time ago and the glass was really dirty.

Amazing what a little spray paint and cleaning can do!

IKEA Projects

Hello all! I hope you had a nice 4th of July. It's hard to believe that the summer is half over.

I've been working on some projects using my IKEA goodies. One of the items I found at IKEA were these shelves/ledges. I wanted to use them on the wall behind my sofa.

The frames and green vases are also from IKEA.

Handyman Hubby helped me with the subway art. We listed the cities and states that we've lived in and a few other things that have meaning to us. I love how they turned out!

The smaller frames have an old map and report card in them. The map is from an old history book that belonged to my Grandpa and the report card was from a relative back in the early 1900's.

My floor lamp is sporting a new IKEA shade. It matches the shade on the small lamp on my console table.

Another IKEA find were these pots and faux plants.

They are perfect for the top of my fridge. I love the green of the plants against my white cupboards.

I still have a few more IKEA goodies to decorate with so stay tuned!

Happy 4th of July!

We had my family over for a cookout on Saturday and I wanted to share some photo's with you.

I found so many great ideas and free printables that I got a little carried away!

I love the water bottles! It was so easy to do and the labels were free!!

I purchased some star-shaped sugar cookies and wrapped each one in a plastic bag and tied it with ribbon.

For dessert I served vanilla ice cream with a variety of toppings. Red and blue sprinkles, whipped topping, chocolate syrup and a mini flag. The kids really enjoyed making their own sundae.

It was really hot that day so the kids had a water balloon fight.

My niece Violet had a blast! She didn't like that her clothes got wet so she took them off!

Here are the beauty queens! My niece Kristi (left) and my daughter Taylor (right). They are all growing up too fast!

I hope you all have a safe and super fun 4th of July!
