2011 - My Favorite Projects

Can you believe it? It's going to be 2012!! This year just flew by. It was my first whole year of blogging and I accomplished a lot! Everyone is posting their favorite projects or top 10 of 2011 so I decided to join the fun.

Without a doubt, painting my kitchen cabinets was my favorite project of 2011. It was sooo much work but the end result was totally worth it.

Let's go back to that dark kitchen with the orange-y stained cabinets . . .

How did I live with my kitchen like this for so long? A little a lot of paint can do wonders!

Much better! The new camera helps too!

If you've been following my blog for a while then you know how often I change stuff around in my house. What can I say . . . I get bored easily. These photos were taken way back in March so I've moved things around a little bit. I still love the white cabinets and the paint has held up great! No chipping or peeling at all.

Another one of my favorite projects was this shelf that Handyman Hubby built for me. Didn't he do a great job? I've had so much fun decorating it for different holidays/seasons!

This next project was long overdue and boy was I glad to get it finished! My daughter Hannah is almost 11 years old and wanted a more grown up room. I love how everything came together . . .

She is really happy with her room and even keeps it clean!

In October I was challenged by Family Dollar to come up with Fall/Halloween ideas and decor using their seasonal products. My favorite project was the tablescape I created.

I can't leave out the "big surprise" from Hannah's guinea pig. In January we added 3 adorable little baby guinea pigs to our family . . .

We planned on finding homes for them but that never happened. Yes, you read that correctly. We have 4 guinea pigs. We all got so attached to them and well . . . the rest is

See you all next year! I have lots of ideas and projects planned for 2012. The library is going to be awesome (if I ever get it finished!).

Christmas Clean Up

I'm one of those people that takes down the tree and decorations right after Christmas. I've even been known to start packing stuff up on Christmas day! I was good this year and waited until after Christmas!

For some reason I just get tired of all the clutter and want to clean and organize my whole house! Anybody else with me on this?

Once all the Christmas decorations were put away I decorated the hallway shelf for winter. I'll probably keep it like this through January then start the Valentine's Day decorating.

I love all the free subway art printables that are out there!

All of this is stuff I already had. The gray scarf I stole borrowed from my daughter. I took a snowflake ornament (from Target 50% off!) and just propped it up against the subway art.

That's about the extent of my "winter decorating". Fast. Easy. Done!

By the way, I was in JoAnn's yesterday and they already have the Valentine's Day and St. Patrick's Day decorations out! Geez!

Have an awesome day!!

Creating a Gallery Wall

Hey! Did you all have a nice Christmas? Anybody eat waaay too many cookies and sweets? I sure did!

I've been working on my library and wanted to give you an update. Above the Billy bookcases I decided to create a gallery wall.

I tend to change my mind a lot so making templates of everything was a must!

I'm so glad I took the time to do this! It really didn't take that long to trace everything on paper and cut it out. I used painters tape to hang all the shapes and  moved them around until I found a look that I liked.

As you can see, I still have more stuff to hang up.

It's been a slow process but eventually I'll get this room finished!

More DIY Artwork

Hello my friends! I'm back with another fabulous DIY artwork idea. If you remember waaaay back in November I showed you a sneak peek of what I was working on.

This is what I started with . . .

I purchased this artwork at Kirklands several years ago. Here is what it looked like in my red dining room . . .

I really wanted to use them in my new library but the color was all wrong. What's a thrifty mom going to do? I took those babies apart . . . oh yes I did!

I covered up the red and gold with some wrapping paper that I found at Michael's for $1.

I painted the medallion the same color as my table . . . Aquatic Mist and gave the frame a fresh coat of white paint.

I love, love, love it!! This little makeover cost me a whopping $1 (for the wrapping paper).

So there you have it folks. Another cheap thrifty DIY project from yours truly.

The library is looking like a real room now! Only a few more projects left to do and it will be finished!

Have an awesome day!!
